Lindstrand finalist for economic resilience award

Lindstrand USA, Inc., manufacturer of the most advanced lighter-than-air vehicles and air inflatables in the world, has been selected as a finalist in a University of Virginia competition that highlights and promotes the most resilient businesses in economically-challenged parts of the Commonwealth.

“Five years ago, Lindstrand USA opened for business in Southside Virginia with a primary goal of securing U.S. Government contracts. Working with the local Virginia Employment Commission, 31 now highly skilled, full-time employees have been hired, and the company has grown into a multi-million dollar operation. 60 percent of its sales are exported worldwide. Sales have diversified from 100 percent military to 50/50 military/commercial. Our success is mainly due to the support of the American National Bank, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Industrial Development Authority and the Longwood SBDC. The Virginia Employment Commission has also played an important part in helping us select an outstanding team.” said Angela Lewis, chief operating officer. “It is an overwhelming honor to receive word that the Tayloe Murphy Center at the Darden School of Business – one of the best business schools in the country – has nominated Lindstrand USA as a finalist for its Resilience Award.”

Lindstrand USA is one of 14 finalists from among 21 semi-finalists and 88 total businesses statewide to enter this year’s Tayloe Murphy Resilience Awards competition, which honors healthy entrepreneurial-based businesses in areas facing high unemployment, high poverty and low entrepreneurial activity.

The company will now compete to be one of five winners.
